A friend of mine has been asking this question for quite a long time. He is shy of asking a doctor. Even after many years of wife’s menopause he continues to use contraceptive as he is afraid of her getting pregnant. Can someone advice correctly?

  1. Menopause is the cessation of the woman’s ability to conceive. While going through menopause, a woman may become pregnant, but after it is complete, there is no chance. If she went through it many years ago, they are safe. No contraception is needed.

  2. Since some women have other problems that can cause delay in ovulation at that age, an exam by a doctor is necessary to make sure menopause is complete. After a full year without periods and after a regular exam, they should be fine to not get pregnant. It also depends on how old the woman is. Above 50, I’d bet they’d be fine, under 40, run for condom cover.
Once she gets an exam and is cleared by her doctor, the fact that they won’t get pregnant is such a relief that it can improve their sex life. That might be one way to get them to the doctor-LOL.

you can say that a woman has menopause if she had not her period for 12 months, then no need for contraceptives because the ovaries are no longer producing eggs. if a woman still menstruate now and then with a pause of 1 , 2 or 3 months, it is still possible she could get pregnant
